Nepal’s largest, the Long-billed Pipit, is mostly a winter visitor across many parts of the country, with a small breeding population in the hill districts of Sudurpaschim Province. Pipits are among the most challenging groups of birds to identify, trickier than most other LBJs.

Nepal marks the westernmost limit of the Black-headed Shrike-Babbler’s range. Spotting this resident species in the mid-hill forests of Nepal means you’ve come a long way in birding the country. It is the largest of the shrike-babblers found here! (PC Sanjay Tha Shrestha)

Spot-winged Starling migrates to Nepal for breeding from northeast India and Myanmar/western Thailand. Its ecology and movement remain very poorly understood among the Himalayan migrants. Occurs in the terai, lower foothills, and inner valleys (PC: Sanjay Tha Shrestha).

Oriental Honey Buzzard--a fairly common medium-sized bird of prey in Nepal that feeds on bees, wasps & their larvae. Distributed throughout terai, Shivaliks & lower middle hills. Known to have several variable plumages from dark (this one!) to light phases! (PC Pratap Gurung).

3 cubs. 1 urgent message. Found across the Indian subcontinent, in India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, these unique bears are already regionally extinct in Bangladesh, and sightings in Bhutan are rare. Let’s protect their forests, restore corridors, and ensure these cubs grow up wild.

Dumping waste in and around forest areas isn't just a problem of sanitation and hygiene. It's an ecological problem that fundamentally alters the behavior and interaction of wildlife with humans, ultimately ending up in a lose-lose situation for both. Video credits - Shivansh

World's one of the smallest woodpeckers, White-browed Piculet, is a resident breeding species in the Churia foothills Nepal. This & several other species eg Red-headed Trogon, necklaced laughingthrushes, Ruddy Kingfisher, Great Hornbill & others make Churia worthy of protection!

Snow leopards have the lowest genetic diversity of all big cats due to persistently small population sizes throughout their evolutionary history, which may make recovery from human hunting and habitat loss challenging. In PNAS: ow.ly/37ua50XeeBW
