The Video of the X3 flare: The flare was from an as-yet unnumbered region coming over the SE limb. It peaked at 14:40 U.T. It is very plain from the event itself that there was a major eruption away from the Sun - i.e., a coronal mass ejection but it is too far east to affect us.
