New article explains why Effective Altruism is a cult. I'll post a long thread about this tomorrow. Here's the article, which is about 8,400 words long! I hope you find it interesting and useful.

The other name for "universal high income" is hyper-inflation. When you print money to make everyone a millionaire then prices rise accordingly. So a loaf of bread costs $3000, a haircut $21,000 Look at Weimar Germany where "everyone was a millionaire" Musk is wrong again.

This is a peculiar article of faith among EAs. I discuss it at the end of my most recent article (below). I have never once seen EAs seriously estimate how many would have been saved if EA had never existed--and my guess is that *more good* would have been done if EA never was.

It's not a "trick" to justify capitalism. It's just an *extension of capitalism* and all the *terrible things it's caused*, from the environmental crisis to the AGI race to unbelievable wealth disparities to the exacerbation of global poverty to factory farming, etc. etc. etc.

Most of the time it's the exact opposite: invention is the mother of necessity. LLM chatbots are a great example: AI companies build them, and then ask, "What the F can we actually do with these systems?" Most "needs" are manufactured by capitalists.

New advancements in science don't matter much if the fabric of society is ripped apart by slop, disinformation, deepfakes, and other nonsense. Can democracy survive "AI"? Quite possibly no. Roon doesn't seem to get this.

Gen AI videos are ruining philosophy. With Camus, Nietzsche & Cioran - they've mashed-up a few quotes from each with hallucinated self-help gobbledigook, misrepresenting these philosophers, making them crass & "feel good". Don't watch YouTube videos from 2024-5 - most are slop.

Dr. Émile P. Torres Imagine having the power to transform lives for the better, make a lasting difference that people will remember for centuries, and instead not only refrain from doing that, but directly cause an incomprehensible amount of misery and death. hsph.harvard.edu/news/usaid-shu…

The same day it comes out he is now worth 750 billion dollars, he says it’s actually evil to give money to help people. He’s a literal supervillain
