Satellite presentations rarely get more extreme than this. The torrid, pinhole eye of Category 5 Hurricane Erin is a crystal clear window to the ocean’s seething surface. She is one of the strongest Hurricanes to ever prowl this region of the Atlantic Basin.

UPDATE: Category 5 Hurricane Erin has just hit a new peak intensity, with the pressure in her searingly dry eye dropping to 915 MBAR. An instantaneous surface wind gust of ~206 MPH in the eyewall has been measured by a dropsonde.
