My article on jiashu 家属 in the Mao era is out. It explains what has changed and what has not regarding gendered “reproductive” labor under state socialism. I dedicated it to Xiaohong Xu, my friend and fellow researcher in critical studies of the Chinese Revolution.
Excited to share that my article, “The Culture of Censorship,” was just accepted at American Sociological Review.
In it, I develop a micro-sociological model of censorship and coin the term “complicit creativity.” I’m so grateful to everyone who provided comments and helped me think it through.
I’m excited to share that my research on judicial interpretations of gender identity has been published in the Bulletin of Applied Transgender Studies!
