Harvey, long known for its strip clubs and 5am liquor licenses, has banned alcohol sales after 12am as it tries to shed its "anything goes" image. But club operators, who say the restriction is forcing them out of business, aren't going out without a fight chicagotribune.com/suburbs/daily-…

This is a high school student in Camden, AR, who was held in a chokehold by a uniformed police officer to the point where his feet left the ground. His offense? He was arguing with another student. This is unacceptable. Spread the word. x.com/charlisaaaaa/s…

Allison It also doesn't help that the current max child care deduction is 8k per kid under 6. Getting rid of that maximum would be an easy way to provide at least some relief. (A more affordable system over all would be better, but baby steps.)

When staff members are having a bad day, how do they hope their principal will deal with them? With grace, with patience… cut ‘em some slack maybe? When students are having a bad day, how do they hope their teachers will deal with them?

A question on a form and explanation from my accountant showed me the #WarOnDrugs is still being waged against college students. There’s no war on domestic violence, no war on weapons violations, no war on sexual assault. Just drugs. 🤔 AOTC is American Opportunity Tax Credit

IL Schools are supposed to get $350m toward equity each year. Under Pritzker's proposed budget, it will be only $200m *unless the graduated income tax passes*

A reminder: When Illinois adopted school funding reform in 2017, it froze the (inequitable) state $ each district received so no district lost $, and promised an annual addition of $350m to be distributed based on evidence of NEED. That $350m is the part that goes toward equity.

A short thread: As some of you may have heard, this week marks the end of my time w NPRIllinois. Starting 3/2 I’ll be working for Illinois State Board of Education. While I’m a little misty about leaving journalism, I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to focus all my energy on k-12 public schools.
