An important reminder from Sophie Castell that access to arts and culture is a vital & essential part of life. But as We Shall Not Be Removed warned back in 2020, the pandemic has created a 2 tier society which risks excluding many CEV/disabled people & mitigations are still needed #EndAbleism

"ONS has concluded that a large part of the overall heightened risk of death from Covid is because disabled people are “disproportionately exposed to a broad range of generally disadvantageous circumstances compared with non-disabled people”. Yup!

So disappointed that Serpentine have compromised access to their South Gallery. Replacing flat-entry access with a temporary steep-step & call-for-a-ramp arrangement is not access at all. So I missed out seeing this serpentinegalleries.org/whats-on/domin… #7InclusivePrinciples #AccessMatters

Disabled professionals are always being asked to do something for nothing in the cultural sector whether its access, advice, governance or work. Our friends at UNLIMITED want to do something about it. Fill in their short survey here

It was particularly noteworthy that over 13% of ERF funds went to disabled led organisations & individuals with a success rate of nearly 80%. The fund made a vital contribution to ensuring we were not removed #WeShallNotBeRemoved Arts Council England

82% of respondents to the 2021 We Shall Not Be Removed survey expressed concern about the maintenance of provision of access for disabled audiences through reopening. Despite our warnings, the cultural sector didn't listen, so these 'findings' are of little surprise. #WeShallNotBeRemoved

With signs of disabled and neurodiverse artists beginning to gain recognition in the art world, will we see an increase in institutional concern for accessibility and the participation of disabled audiences, artists and workers alike? ow.ly/2UJG50JIGo4

'Living with Covid' was only ever a plan to spread Covid, which means continued isolation for many disabled/CEV people. "Trying to avoid the virus in a country that has forgone all safety measures means risking your life when you pop to the shops". Frances Ryan

'When non-disabled actors play #Richardiii, @Arthur_Hughes1 explains, “it’s artifice, it’s a prosthetic, it’s a shadow of what it means to be a disabled person in this world”. It does a disservice to an audience & to disabled people'. This performance calls time on cripping up
