Congratulations to Giada Petrillo, who placed first in the New York State DAR essay contest! Giada’s essay had won first place locally, for the Jerusalem chapter, and is now in competition with other first place essays across the northeastern region.

Ms. Vargas-Curatola’s College Level French class visited the Nassau Museum of Art, viewing exhibits of Art Deco artwork, architecture, and fashion. Students were prompted to explore an artistic movement that originated in Paris, France and to reflect on the French’s influence.

Students and faculty celebrated National Poetry month by sharing self-authored poems as well as those written by others at WMS’ tenth annual Word on the Street. Bravo to all who shared and a tremendous thank you to Mrs. Hult for organizing!

Some history, some sun, and lots of smiles. WHS world language students and teachers enjoyed the day at Ellis Island to complement their immigration unit at school.

Thank you to Ms. Diesso and Ms. Hess’ class for hosting Ms. Schiebelhuth’s section 14 class; the two classes had partnered in February for World Read Aloud Day and reconnected this afternoon for an in-person session of shared reading.

Sixth graders in Mrs. Gatti’s and Ms. Hersch’s classes engaged in “speed dating” style book talks for their last independent read of the year. These book talks focused on fantasy and science fiction texts that connected to the students’ mythology unit.

Countless thanks to WHS’ summer readers, our amazing English teachers, Mrs. Berg, who secured the raffle donations from our generous Wantagh community, and the 6–12 Association, which provided snacks for the English department’s Summer Reading Celebration!
