“Any legal challenge that we can offer up, we will do so. Any political challenge that comes around, we will deal with it. And any direct action that’s required, we’re going to do it  — again and again and again, as we have in the past.”

Dzilh Yez, Wet’suwet’en territory (Smithers) This view never gets old. I’ve slept at the top of this mountain, scrambled on its glacier, ate my fill of berries on its slopes and swam in its waters. I’m grateful I live in its shadow and my children are growing up under its gaze

This is a big deal. The BC Energy Regulator previously told me TC Energy was required to conduct a cumulative effects assessment before starting construction. Then they sold the pipeline and BCER split the permits — and construction started this week.

Records show B.C. forests were cut, damaged or harvested outside of authorized boundaries 173 times since 2021. Where exactly did companies log them without permission? We’ve got a map for that. #bcpoli via Ainslie Cruickshank: thenarwhal.ca/bc-logging-wit…

Fire behaviour has increased on fires within the Ootsa Lake Complex. The Sabina Lake wildfire (R11204), located S of Ootsa Lake and about 80km S of Burns Lake has organized crown fire behaviour and breached containment lines on the E flank, burning to the NE, towards Ootsa Lake.

We know wildfire smoke isn't healthy, it's pretty intuitive But how do the risks from intense exposure - when smoke darkens the sky and ash rains down - compare to slightly smoky days, which happen more frequently? Those moderate smoke days are probably riskier than you think

Today fires within the Ootsa Lake Complex (south of Burns Lake) had Rank 5 fire behaviour, an extremely vigorous active crown fire. When fire behaviour is like this responder safety is top priority.

Last spring, I flew over this as it was unfolding. Months later, I dug up internal govt docs that showed officials signed off on emergency plans that later failed. Now, more than a year later, B.C. hits the project with new fines, bringing the total close to $1.4 million.
