#elevatetheconvo Hello everyone, I'm Mary McClatchey, a retired judge and workplace mental health trainer. I've enjoyed my work in this field for several years, and I'm excited about our conversation today.

#elevatetheconvo Q1. I think employers are learning that mental health promotion and resilience training reduces turnover, productivity loss, legal spend, primary health care spend, out of network mental health care spend.

#elevatetheconvo A2. I have recently seen real traction with trial attorney teams. They just needed leadership's validation to talk about these issues and have had great fun initiating daily wellness habits together to promote wellbeing.

#elevatetheconvo Q3: Often the barriers are in Human Resources, where the ADA and FMLA compliance issues are complex and they have not been trained on handling situations involving mental health conditions. I've found them very receptive and they want to do the right thing.

#elevatetheconvo Q4: I've had employers agree to pilots recently because they're willing to try new things to help employees be happier, more engaged, and more productive. I teach a lot of brain science so they connect mental health to high executive functioning..

#elevatetheconvo. I have found that asking leaders to talk to their work groups to decide on email curfews is helpful. It gets everybody on the same page and starts changing the 24/7 culture. x.com/BSDperspective…

Manager training is indeed crucial because they fear employees will take advantage of increased flexibility and freedom. Supervisors are at different ends of the trust/control spectrum and this is best addressed in training. #elevatetheconvo x.com/darcygrutt/sta…

Flexibility stigma is still very strong in many workplaces. In fact, it often leads to lawsuits under FMLA. Flexible work schedules are the most common ADA accommodation, yet employers still don't realize this. Here's my blog on this: worksmartpartners.com/news/ada-accom… x.com/sspencerthomas…

This is a great piece by NBA player Kevin Love on why men need to speak out about mental health. Worth sharing with all the boys and men in your life.
