So all the victims of the Southport mass stabbing were girls and women? But you wouldn't know that from the ways this is written (children, adults). Their sex is only mentioned in the direct quotes. For shame #sexmatters #invisiblewomen Seen in Journalism firebreak dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1…

ICYMI: when men and boys perpetrate violence against girls and women, that needs to be clear in the language the media and politicians use. Gender neutral or inclusive terms aren't "impartial", they in this context they are distorting. My modest proposal: stop doing this!

X suffers badly from this kind of deliberate obtuseness. I was describing a visceral reaction, not a serious proposal. As I made clear when someone asked later in the thread, I oppose the death penalty in all circs. Even if I didn't I would hardly advocate its use in every case

Today, on the Global Day of Literacy, it has been 1,088 days since the Taliban criminally deprived millions of Afghan girls of their education. For over a thousand days, girls have been barred from schools, while the world stands by, busy normalizing this oppressive regime.

🤐 It's not just the Taliban who police women's language: "It’s hard to think of any civilisation in recorded history which has not placed restrictions on when, where and to whom women may speak" says Debbie Cameron debuk.wordpress.com/2024/09/03/tal…
