The massive dissonance between the funding bodies & the chemicals & instrument companies keeps making financing your research really challenging. For example, see the price of 1 mCi 3H WIN35428 from PerkinElmer $3500 - 2015 $4200 - 2016 $5100 - 2018 $6200 - 2020 $6800 - 2021

Prices for radionuclides are astronomical! For 2022, the list prices have increased by 40-120% from 2021 and an as added gut punch, our academic discounts have gone down by 10%! Grant budgets haven't increased in years - wondering how we continue the science??🤔PerkinElmer

New #singlemolecule #RNA #RBP paper alert!🚨 We examine the molecular mechanism for how so many different sRNAs could share the same RNA chaperone Hfq to allow bacteria to respond to a wide variety of stresses. Congrats Jorjethe!! 👏👏Nature Communications nature.com/articles/s4146…

Excited to share our new #singlemolecule #riboswitch paper! We study the co-transcriptional folding kinetics of the glmS ribozyme riboswitch and how it allows a rapid response to metabolite for mRNA turnover. Congrats Yuan! @NAR_Open academic.oup.com/nar/advance-ar…

New paper alert! We used optical tweezers to resolve heterogenous folding/unfolding pathways of repeat expanded huntingtin mRNA, revealing how hairpin slippage can seed inter-strand base pairing and promote aggregation. Congrats Brett O'Brien! 👏👏 nature.com/articles/s4146…

Our new paper is out in PNAS! We show that competition for binding to the Hfq matchmaker disfavors mismatched sRNA-mRNA combinations while allowing matched sRNA-mRNAs to form stable pairs. Kudos to Jorjethe Roca and Yi-Lan Chen for their fantastic work! doi.org/10.1073/pnas.2…
