14th Jan 2024 - Blue Monday, a few hours at Bird's hide in Kaeng Krachan NP, Thailand, produced an number of Blue birds including Hainan Blue Flycatcher, Indochinese Blue Flycatcher, Siberian Blue Robin and Black-naped Monarch. Chinese Blue Flycatcher also made an appearance.

Great start to a weekend Cape Clear Bird Obs a small ringing session in Cotter’s garden produced 25 birds including 2 very fatty Willow Warbler, 5 Chiffchaff and 5 Yellow-browed Warbler. The latter now all wearing colour rings as part of a new migration project Daniel Gornall EURING BTO

Finding this juvenile Barred Warbler was a nice finish to a short visit to Cape Clear and justified not getting the early boat. Unlike previous skulkers this bird showed really well. Not the same though without Steve Wing who is sadly missed 😪

Alone on a misty mountain, I had a wonderful encounter with this Dotterel. I sat and watched it preen and doze from about 10m before it started feeding and walking right past where I was sitting.

Both Bluethroat showed really well on and off today at Brownstown Head. Also had Ring Ouzel, Yellow Wagtail, Hoopoe, Black Redstart and heard a Tree Pipit.

Work day to prepare the site for the upcoming breeding season. The Co Council will assist with the installation of posts. Jobs will include attaching netting, roping off perimeter, burying base of netting, putting up signs and electric fence, etc. [email protected]
