For those wondering why I'm not planning to stream until October 2nd, first off, all is well. I'm going away for a week and plan to take a simultaneous break from social media too as a part of that, but I look forward to returning to you all, revived and refreshed!

if there are any blind indiedevs out there who need a programmer. i'd love to collab on a small audio only (but still 3d simulated) game for steam. #IndieDevs #indiedev #gamedev #accessibility

Did You Know? 95% of disabled people have experienced ableism. That's nearly all disabled people. #WeAreImpact2024 (Src: Attitudes towards disabled people - Scope 2022, The Big Ableism Survey - Unlearning Ableism 2024)

Studios can fix this by making sure they have inclusive policies, and consider that they may have abled/neuronormative biases that will affect how they perceive things like performance and sickness. Oh and throw the Bradford Factor and any numerical bases HR systems in the bin.

Random, but the A never stood for Ally Only cishets pushed for that because they have to put themselves in everything I’m 35 and queer people have correcting that for at least 15 years

There are many many challenges in games to make them accessible. Accessibility consultants are extremely valuable to the future of how we shape games. They pave the path in inclusivity, help us understand what's needed and contribute to a better experience for everyone

I don’t think people without chronic pain can comprehend waking up EVERY day in some form of pain. Like your every waking moment, every day is filled with pain that you just have to try and ignore, because you can’t rest because you would just be resting forever

Every day is waking up and finding that parts of your hurt and you just have to go about your day with that, and are expected to continue as normal because it won’t end And sometimes it’s fine but other times it’s just exhausting beyond belief

Thunderstorms spook me but I also get SO EXCITED. I watch the lighting hit on lightning maps and wait for the thunder to catch up lol

The pace of change can be frustratingly slow. Every conversation, each feature consulted on and every round of user research with disabled gamers pushes that needle further. To brighten accessibility anywhere is to brighten it everywhere. Don’t denigrate our torchbearers.

Accessibility consultants cannot affect on all aspects of the game they consult on. We can only point out the flaws, give suggestions and advice how to fix it, and then hope for the best. Not everything gets always implemented for various reasons. Might be time, 1/3

For beginners, it can be difficult to know what to put in alt text, as well as when alt text is needed and when it isn't. This decision tree from W3C (@[email protected]) helps you determine what to do, based on specific situations. w3.org/WAI/tutorials/…
