Today over 1 in 5 of available Crown Courts are shut; 106 available but not sitting. The backlog at end March 2025 was 76,957, up 5% in 6 months, or 3,839 more coinciding with Ministry of Justice starting to cap sitting days. Today 7 of the Old Bailey’s 18 courts are shut, 40% closed.
