From 1974 to 2020, the vineyard area in the Loire Valley (France) has shrunk by more than 38,000 hectares (-41%). Above-proportional declines in Vendée (-91%), Indre (-88%), Loire Atlantique (-56%), Loire-et-Cher (-54%). Loire Atlantique, once the Loire's #1, lost 12,907 ha.

Moving North. Between 1974-2020, France lost 441,500ha of vineyards (-37%), half of which in Languedoc-Roussillon (-216,000 ha, -50%). The only winners are in the north of France, Champagne (+55.8%), Burgundy (+43.9%), and Alsace (+41.4%).

The amazing rise in U.S. wine imports has been dwarfed by the imports of . In absolute levels, 2022 spirits imports are worth $12.6b -- compare to $7.3b for wine and $6.7b for beer. The 2005-2022 CAGR for spirits was 6.5%, much higher than for (4.0%) & (4.7%).

The sommelier knife, waiter's friend, or wine key is a corkscrew in a folding body similar to a pocket knife. It was conceived by German inventor Carl F. A.
