When employees do something for one another in their personal time, that’s a sign of a culture where people care for one another. You shouldn’t step in as a company and stomp all over it. That’s going to build a new culture, and not one you generally want.

It's ironic the DeepSeek achieved OpenAI's original mission of creating and releasing AI openly. But DeepSeek went about it by "distilling" (scraping) knowledge from OpenAI's closed model.

Perplexity.ai moved quickly to benefit from DeepSeek's openness by running a private instance of it behind their $20/month paywall.
