All the papers for an issue of Work in the Global Economy Journal on LPT 50 years after Braverman & Labor & Monopoly Capital are now on early view. The lead article from CHRIS Smith & myself is, we believe, the most comprehensive account of contemporary theory and research, bristoluniversitypressdigital.com/view/journals/…

New episode of ePODstemology! Dan Honig (DanHonig.bsky) talks about how we can get better public services by recruiting values-driven bureaucrats and giving them the autonomy to adapt their activities to local conditions. I can't think of anything the UK needs more. buzzsprout.com/1763534/episod…

Weekly visit to Oxford today. Hoped to be there early but GWR peak ticket prices just completely ridiculous. 5 minutes to 9? £73 without a railcard. Immediately after 9? £35 w/o card. When TfL don’t even do peak fares on Fridays anymore…

Since Maccabi Tel Aviv is trending, come and get to know its soccer/football fans who ignited anti-Arab hate and violence in Amsterdam, leading to reprisals from Arabs who were attacked (and who are universally being smeared as antisemites engaging in pogroms). 🧵

Interesting on creatine. After reading several studies on it a few months ago (cited here) I’ve been having 3-5g a day and I would say small but notable subjective benefits for cognitive capacity. My chess score went up slightly too. Seems no side effects theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2…

I’m also on bluesky (@ willjfleming) but I will also keep this account as I suspect it’s not super helpful for the current situation to have two separate platforms for right and left…

I reviewed Sarah Waters ‘Suicide Voices: Labour Trauma in France’ for Work, Employment & Society - an excellent study of the epidemic of work suicide in large French organisations doi.org/10.1177/095001…

I enjoyed reading this polemic as I sit in the airport waiting to return from two weeks in India. Attached a pic of our plastic slippers worn to protect the marble floors of the Taj Mahal, worn through to shoe before you’re out.

Today at The BSA conference ‘25 I presented our collaborative work with Mark Fabian on coproduction in the third/nonprofit sector. We’re keen to debate how it fits in public sociology.
