The sadistic slaughter of thousands of #WhiteStorks flying through Lebanon is totally out of control this spring. One minute flying home the next dying in agony with no idea what’s happened. We’ve done our best but where are the patrols!? قوى الامن الداخلي STOP THESE BASTARDS!! 🤬💔🩸

A great walk in the Gloucestershire countryside yesterday lifted spirits with several pairs of redstarts amongst others followed by a drop in at the Diglis Fish Pass. 130 roach, 50 odd bleak+ dace, perch and 2 carp ( 1 big). I love redstarts! So smart but so discreet!

The old orchards on the outskirts of Hereford and everywhere else in the country for that matter are valuable habitat for a variety of wildlife and at this time of year the cavities in these old trees provide homes for one of our most colourful flying treasures!

Tawny owls are fledging successfully, barns owls hopefully will follow shortly but the little owls that used to sit on every other telegraph pole at this time of year when I was a kid are extremely few and far between.

So lucky to get an obliging nightingale at lunchtime in Highnam woods today! Lot's of little bursts of broken song as he skulked in the undergrowth, (that branch!🙄), but finally he stood up proud in a slightly clearer spot and gave it something worthy of his species. Perfect !😊

Very enjoyable morning at Goldcliff despite the very strong cold wind. Blackwits and barwits, whimbrel on the rocks, lesser whitethroat and marsh harrier with green wing tag were highlights amongst many others.

The weather on Thursday was fantastic for hill walking so went to the Mynydd du and hiked up to the summit of Pen Y Gadair and Waun Fach and returned via Rhos Dirion and the Grwyne Fawr reservoir. Met a great Canadian on top of Waun Fach. Enjoy the rest of your holiday buddy!
