In 2024 Aquatic Warbler census takes place on Biebrza Marshes coordinated by OTOP_BirdLife Polska Dozens of volunteers & experts count singing males during evening visits. Yesterday, we surveyed half of Ławki Fen, the most important breeding area of the species in PL & maybe in the world

Due to very low water level on Biebrza Marshes most of White-winged Black Terns didn't decide to breed this year, but some individuals & small groups can be still observed next to river.

Had a great couple of days in #Białowieża and Biebrza with Oliwier Myka targeting certain species and visiting a range of habitats. Several lifers inc: Aquatic Warbler, Pygmy Owl, 8sp of Woodpecker, GS Eagle, Little Crake and more. Great views of Bison and Elk too.

Summer birding during heatwave isn't easy but we had a nice day with Jacob from 🇩🇪. Today on Biebrza Marshes we had Greater & Lesser Spotted Eagle, Ortolan B., Penduline Tit, Little Crake, RN Grebe & woodpeckers: White-backed, Middle, Lesser Spott. + obliging Syrians at the end.

Summer time is when I mostly got asked for one-day trips to look for European Bison in Białowieża Forest. Usually, except from the main actor, we also find some kind of bonus - yesterday it was a family of Pygmy Owls with three tame juveniles.

Looks like the mating season of European Bison in Białowieża Forest has just started. Males are joining the herds of females and are looking for the ones in heat. Today early in the morning I bumped into the herd of ca. 45 Bisons in southern part of the Forest.
