🙏 Thanks @stevereedmp for setting out Labour's stall on nature 🦋 🐝 🌳 🌄

🍃 Good to see the recognition that nature matters for itself, our wellbeing, food and the economy.

🔖 Some important commitments to note...

“There is always room for debate around opinions. There is no room for debate around facts. We have to make lying wrong again.” A.Guterres

Climate denial is a waste of space when useful debates around the best routes forward to solving the climate crisis are urgently needed.

Very excited about our new paper! Lisbeth Hordley & I show that if you have long grass in your garden you’ll see more butterflies, that more long grass is better & that the effects are greater for gardens in more urban & arable landscapes. sciencedirect.com/science/articl… 🧵

Good UK progress closing sandeel fisheries & restricting bottom trawling in Marine Protected Areas.

But Government plans could speed up licensing in MPAs.

Parliamentarians, please back this amendment to end oil & gas activity in MPAs:

We travel abroad, we visit museums and galleries, we dream of faraway places. But there are hedge banks HERE, ready to be marvelled: whole exquisite worlds of mosses and bluebells, of leaves as beautiful as cut glass, of greens of real plants, not painted. On. Our. Doorsteps.

Great to share the petition with Adrian Ramsay, Suffolk Wildlife Trust North East Reserves. With 100k signatures, it demands action to restore nature by 2030.

Adrian set out The Green Party plan to double nature-friendly farming funding & for environmental rights.

A nightingale sang with joy!

📣 The govt has backtracked on it’s commitments to end the and have instead proposed extensive and indefinite culling.

The The Wildlife Trusts have today written to the SOS to express our concerns.

Please share this thread and please have your say. 🙏

HOAC is an amazing facility that needs to be relocated. Broadwater is not an appropriate site as it is nationally important for wildlife. There are potentially suitable sites close by. To ensure that HOAC survives Hillingdon Council must look seriously at locations outside its boundary

So, not only have Norfolk County Council ignored years of advice & submitted a planning application for the NWL...🤨

But some MPs have written to DEFRA Secretary of State to out-maneuver Natural England's bat guidance which could block the road, labelling their work as 'arbitrary' 🙃🥺

Our protected wildlife sites (Sites of Special Scientific Interest) are under attack.

By transferring powers to designate to the Sec of State, Tory MPs plan to make designation a political rather than scientific decision.

Just 3% of England is well protected for nature.

We can't afford to swap balanced scientific process to designate SSSIs with political choice.

Here's a briefing explaining how the process really works & why we need more wildlife sites, not more politics:

First known occupation of Swift bricks in Herts - great to find 2 pairs of Blue Tits nesting in new build houses on the Taylor Wimpey development at Stevenage, showing the universal nature of these bricks. Just imagine if they were mandated for every house
