Recovering America's Wildlife Act was reintroduced in the senate where it has bipartisan support. Its passage will produce many wildlife jobs nationwide and a significant portion of the money will end up in university wildlife departments. jsonline.com/story/sports/o…

Fascinating new-ish paper on the epidemiology of snakebite deaths in the U.S. Deaths are very rare. Timber Rattlesnakes are the species associated with the highest number of deaths, in large part due to religious handling of snakes! Spencer Greene, MD 🐍🐈💊💉🍱 DOI: 10.1016/j.ajem.2020.08.083

I wonder how often these two sequential photos would be tagged incorrectly by various camera trap loggers. Tell me what you see here.

Two species of fox (separated by millions of years of evolution) occur in Syracuse city parks: the gray fox (Urocycon cinereoargenetus) and the red fox (Vulpes vulpes). Most only ever see the red fox, which often comes out during the day, while the gray fox is mostly nocturnal.

What's the rough cost to outsource "doing the genetics" for assignment tests these days? Let's say I have tissue samples from an ostensibly non-native species and want to figure out where it was most likely introduced from. Hundreds, thousands (1k, 5k?), tens of thousands?

10-15 minutes of super focused work followed by a panicked realization of the time & profuse apologies when I finally join the meeting 5-8 minutes late 😅😅

Behold! The roadkill "otter" I did a u-turn for on the drive to field work this week, and the roadkill "fisher" I did a u-turn for on the ride home. Emphasis on the air quotes...

I love this paper - great job! - psychologists learned that to reverse negative emotions, we need to invest more in studying positive emotions. I love the 3 POSITIVE benefits of a PhD; i) becoming an expert, ii) learning to collaborate, & iii) becoming a better communicator!

Well, I don't use this app much anymore, but this paper is now out! We used camera traps, telemetry, and visual surveys to look at selection on coat color in squirrels: #open_access doi.org/10.1002/ece3.1…

Does anyone have confirmed photos of chigger vs lone star nymph bites? Google is useless and I'd love to know what actually bit me.
