Beautiful pre-christmas work by Huiling Tan’s lab Christoph Wiest, MD/PhD – DBS effects in dystonia studied w/ LFP responses. - No elevated theta in STN (as shown by Julian Neumann et al. in GPi) - Spectral changes under stim similar to PD: ERNA, broad-band power suppression, etc.
Can we use ERNA to guide STN DBS lead placement and programming in PD? Christoph Wiest and Huiling Tan say yes! Read about it here sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
The DBS Think Tank speaker Dr. Tan University of Oxford has amazing new paper out showing waveform and spectrogram-based ERNA reflect the same activity. ERNA has slow and fast dynamics that may be explained by synaptic depletion. The STN-GPe loop may be a clue. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
New research from Christoph Wiest, MD/PhD & colleagues presents a potential biomarker for adaptive deep brain stimulation in #Parkinsons; In PD rats, aperiodic exponents & power at 30-100 Hz in subthalamic nucleus defined changes in basal ganglia network activity elifesciences.org/articles/82467
New Unit Paper | Subthalamic Nucleus Stimulation-Induced Local Field Potential Changes in Dystonia. Now #OpenAccess in MDS Movement Disorders Journal mrcbndu.ox.ac.uk/publications/s… Oxford Neuroscience Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences
Had the best time participating with Oliver Sourbut, Daniel Whittle, Ömer Keskin and Gronw Downes, and meeting the host Amol Rajan and the UC team. Shout out to Christoph Wiest, MD/PhD for playing host at our practice sessions. Hertford College, Oxford #UniversityChallenge

New unit paper published in Movement Disorders Journal by C Wiest, T Simpson, et al. from the Tan group, shows that stimulation-evoked resonant neural activity (ERNA) in the subthalamic nucleus (STN) is modulated by sleep. mrcbndu.ox.ac.uk/publications/s… Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences University of Oxford
Delighted to share our paper on cortico-thalamic tremor circuits and their associations with deep brain stimulation effects in essential tremor, published in Brain MRC BNDU, Oxford Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences doi.org/10.1093/brain/…
