I've been feeling pretty sorry for myself recently regarding the suspension of my research and that of my mentees, but this piece by Maddie Stone reminded me how much company I have in this dismal situation...washingtonpost.com/weather/2020/0…

Every time one of us is rejected, beat down, dismissed, ridiculed, or murdered, I question why I am still in academia. This means I ask myself this question every day, many times a day. I love science, but justice is more important. And yet, it never comes.

Of all the reporting in the last ten days, I think this remembrance of Breonna Taylor from Ari Shapiro and All Things Considered maybe is some of the most important: npr.org/2020/06/04/868…

I heard on the radio that in #Israel, the # of #Covid19 positives only reflect the # of tests. Not true and quite interesting: - %positives range between 0.13% and 6.3%, that's 47-fold! - While a correlation exists, it is completely lost when sampling above 9000 people/day!

THIS was what I needed to read at the end of a day where I wasted too much time following breathless updates on the world's most famous covid patient. A refreshing dive into history, science, and philosophy: theatlantic.com/science/archiv…
