Coaching looks fun from the outside. But once you’re in it, you learn some hard truths that most people never see. Here are 5 hard truths every coach needs to understand: [THREAD] 🧵

1: You’ll be judged by people who know the least. The loudest critics often sit farthest from the process. They don’t see practice. They don’t know the kids. They just watch the scoreboard. Thick skin isn’t optional. It’s survival.

2: Culture isn’t built in the big moments. It’s built on the random Tuesday. The way you start practice. How you respond to bad body language. What you tolerate and what you emphasize. Culture = everyday habits, not hype speeches.

3: Coaching is way more emotional than it looks. Wins feel incredible. Losses stick with you longer than they should. And the weight of every decision, parent, player, and outcome… it adds up. You’re not just coaching a sport, you’re carrying a lot more.

4: You’ll lose sleep over the kid who won’t buy in. Not the star player. Not the kid scoring 20 a night. The one who has potential but resists the process. That one will keep you up, because you care. That’s what makes you a real coach.

5: Your impact will outlive your win-loss record. Players won’t remember the final score. They’ll remember how you made them feel. What you taught them about life. And how you showed up when they needed someone. That’s the legacy.

Coaching is not easy. But it’s worth it. If you’re in it for the right reasons… To lead. To serve. To grow people. Then no stat sheet will ever measure your success.
