Does the sun rise in the east?
Yes.

Does a writer remember how to write?
Maybe not with quite the same ease and clockwork precision, but yes.

A thousand times, yes.

Perhaps the wind ripping through the trees has pushed me into it, but I've opened my manuscript for the first time in a month.

Here's to soaring back into writing!

Routines are everything to a writer (having lost mine this past month, I know this all too well).

What's your favorite routine for settling into writing mode? Inspire me!

Like Frederick the Mouse, I store up sweet memories to get through hard times - like now. Between the long move, broken things, & my beloved in the emergency ward all week, I've been drawing on memories of better times.

Do you write to try to make sense of this difficult world -- or to escape from it?

I do a bit of both. Though after this rough week, I've got a lot of material for the former...

The thought of having time to write again keeps me plowing through the stress and chaos. It's a bright calm island in a turbulent sea, distant but beckoning, closer every day...

I got rid of most of my knickknacks before our big move, but that gives the ones I have left even more meaning. Like symbols, just a few for each character can add a lot of depth and understanding.

I envy my characters. They get to embark on huge journeys with nothing but the clothes on their backs, yet somehow they survive.

Yes to minimalism! No to moving vans and mountains of stuff!

When gales send a hero reeling through their new world, they need to learn how to find respite. My dog's toy box is his salvation. A little bit of home in a strange place.

What comforts your characters?

Gonna try really hard to come up for air today, or I might just drown in this sea of boxes, packing paper, phone calls for new insurance, garbage, recycling, internet, and let's not forget the taxes. , I've missed you!

CROSSING THE THRESHOLD: The hero's world turns upside down, those comforting familiar rituals replaced by strangeness & chaos.

After 4 days driving, far from the door of my old house and almost at the door of the new, I can totally relate.

When a hero sets off, they may simultaneously experience sadness for what they're leaving behind, and excitement for what lies ahead. Do you capture these conflicting emotions?

Do you secretly aspire to become a famous writer? Or maybe not secretly. Though that sort of goal is a longshot, I don't think it's anything to be ashamed of.

Stories, senses, places ... rather than material possessions, these are what stir my soul.

I think the only reason it feels unsettling to see our things wrapped, boxed, and trundled from the house is because of the effect it has on my dog.

Day before D-Day: the Hero prepares and prepares and prepares ... yet there's never enough time!

The movers will invade our house tomorrow, so I can relate.

From the dark scribbles of my mind the thoughts crystallize.

Now typed out, their unique combination of logic and passion light my way.

With movers arriving in 3 days and horizontal gusts of snow quenching all signs of spring, I have descended into the Dark Night of the Soul.

The good thing is that I know this is the low point. Soon I will rise to new heights!
