Another study, another academic discipline, another finding that within-neurotype communication works. It’s a 2-way challenge to make comms work across neurotypes
academic.oup.com/cercor/article…

AKA, autistic people don’t have a communication problem. They just communicate differently.

So here’s my take on .
It was Roy in the other car and he dies. George gets arrested for drink-driving (and/or dangerous driving and/or driving without insurance). Alice is hospitalised and her life implodes over next few episodes; not sure how her situation resolves.

I know it’s extra work, but Disability charities is really need to be engaging with disabled people on the PIP reform consultation.

They’ll make submissions on our they also need to work directly with us to shape their submissions.

1. PIP is not a worklessness/out of work benefit.

2. It’s already v hard to get PIP (especially for MH)

3. Disabled people face a ‘disability tax’ greater than the value of PIP in almost every instance.

4. My PIP pays for support at home. Without that, no way could I work.

Essential info for anyone who faces supporting someone with unknown immigration status in a medical emergency.
[the thread, to which the tweet I am sharing is a response, is chilling reading]

There is quite literally no better feeling than having the service participant to my research tell me the findings will be so helpful for their practice.

THIS is why I do research!

Not for publication, not for academic snobbery, for PRACTICE.

As someone who has had an experience with publishing I’m always more than happy to chat to neurodivergent and marginalised people wanting to publish about the things to look out for, how to sense check something is in your best interest and what to ask for.

Hi everyone, in light of today's events at Dyffryn Amman, we will be open tonight to offer mental health support to anyone who feels they need it. Let's support each other. We're here if you need us- as always. Lots of love from the Maerdy Youth Team.

14 hours since I was admitted to hospital, still no trolley or bed. Not only do I have pneumonia and severe asthma flare but I also live with multiple chronic pain conditions. Maybe focus on the lack of hospital beds first instead of the 'sick note' culture, hey Rishi?!

My favourite act of micro feminism as a blind woman is giving men directions.

Them: we need to get to Piccadilly Circus, I think Regent Street is in front of us.

Me: no that’s Oxford Street, this one (points) is Regent Street.

Them: Um we’re fine 😡

Me: Sure you are.

Even though we have almost 50% disabled staff, we have extremely low sickness absence levels. Deliberately not being utter bastards seems to be paying off, who knew?

This is wonderful. WelshFlier's doctorate took this approach. No-one experiences life through the lens of one academic discpline. So why do we do research about people and policy looking through one lens at a time and expect it to have real world impact? journals.biologists.com/bio/article/13…
