Heavy rains are now hitting Kakuma refugee camp.
UNHCR is on the ground with Department of Refugee Services & partners monitoring the situation & speaking with community leaders.
As part of contingency planning, core relief items are prepositioned & facilities identified as emergency shelter.
I am concerned about the heavy rains which have now reached Kakuma refugee camp.
UNHCR teams are on the ground, working with Department of Refugee Services, partners and members of the community on flood preparation activities. More updates on the situation soon.

🚨Latest update on flooding from Dadaab refugee camp:
Many refugees have been forced from their homes, seeking shelter in schools and on higher ground.
UNHCR is coordinating with Garissa County Gvt. and mobilizing supplies for distribution.
Heavy rains are causing serious flooding and displacement in the Dadaab refugee camps.
UNHCR is working together with Garissa County Gvt. & partners, mobilizing core relief items for distribution, and moving people to safe locations.
It was an honor to join H.E. Rigathi Gachagua, EGH the Deputy President of Kenya, and lend UNHCR’s support and solidarity to those most affected by the flooding in Nairobi.
Today I joined H.E. Rigathi Gachagua, EGH Deputy President and Sam Jackson to distribute items to families affected by the devastating floods in Nairobi.
UNHCR KENYA distributed blankets, mats, jerrycans and mosquito nets to the displaced families.
