Jeff and Rob, thank you for sharing this picture with us. We took a look at radar around 5:12pm and there was a signal that showed very brief and very weak rotation along the Columbia River just to the NE of PDX.

What a dramatic turn in fire season the past two weeks! Not a wisp of smoke visible in OR/WA this AM after 10+ days of showers and cool temps. Next 10 days turn mainly warm/dry, then hints of cooler/showery again early Sept. Less than 100 acres burned past two days

Good morning & happy Wednesday! It's a cold start to the day, especially in the higher elevations and east of the Cascades. Even with this cool start, temps should still rise to about 80 degrees from Portland to Salem.

Meteorological summer has ended (June-August). It was the 5th warmest on record in Portland. Records go back to 1940. In Astoria it was the 4th warmest. July was scorching hot, but just slightly warmer than normal in June & August

Bleh... this heat wave is taking an ugly turn in the Pacific Northwest. Conditions are turning real smoky along & west of the Cascades. This is our view of Mt. Hood (or lack thereof) from Mt Hood Skibowl.

The infrastructure is much different in Alabama compared to Oregon & Washington. Many homes and schools don’t have AC in the Pacific Northwest. Sincerely, “You Whiney People”

New fire burning in the Willapa Hills (southwest Washington) will probably push more smoke into the Portland / Vancouver metro area.

We had some healthy downpours across the Portland metro area yesterday evening. My wife took an interesting photo around 7:30pm of a possible wall cloud near the Columbia River. NWS Portland

I see some "termination dust" ❄️ around the peak of Mt. Hood... a sign of the changing season. Snow levels should dip even lower this upcoming Tuesday and Wednesday. Snow accumulations could occur down to about 6,500-7,500 feet. #ORwx

Hey Reed Timmer, PhD, a friend of mine just took this shot. “Hey Jeff, thought you’d like to see what just passed south of my house in Norman, Oklahoma.”
