During Istanbul's 2013 Gezi protests, I was teaching at Boğaziçi University. Erdoğan derided young demonstrators then as "çapulcular” (rabble rousers). But they adopted his epithet as a point of pride. This sign from Turkey's current protests says "çapulculars’ kids grew up."
