This is a nice summary of some of the common arguments you see in “discussions” about the fires. You can find similar tactics in threads about a number of topics when passion and a level of misinformation/closed mindedness/ignorance are involved.

Great reminder for academics moving between cloud and on-campus teaching not to push students to have cameras on for your own comfort. A visual on your screen does not necessarily mean more engagement, and a lack of visual does not equal disengagement.

I agree with @DrGiesler, I have taught online seminars at @DeakinBusiness for a decade. I never expected video (or even audio) presence in seminars. Yes, broadband & tech have improved, but why do some people continue to equate visual presence as engagement?
