This round, we are excited to curate “Various Untitled Works” by artist Diana Thater, which offers a portal into a 2020 domestic garden in Altadena, California. Alternating between sky and ground, the recordings portray the details of a patch of earth and an expanse of clouds.

The garden features photo-reactive flowers, which blossom at dawn and close at night, animating the day. The dynamics of the wind and shifting natural light tie the ground and sky together while cosmic time, geologic time, and anthropocentric time are evoked.

The artwork is particularly poignant now, as it transports us to a time before the Eaton Fire, when this garden still existed. Thater's work is presented every 20 minutes, starting at the top of every hour, on the #digitalbillboard at 8501 Sunset Boulevard.
