Zeina’s palindromic sonnets are not just gorgeous. Her formal daring also captures something otherwise elusive: how turning something backwards might be the only way to see it straight; how everything has an underside; how sometimes the underbelly is the thing ❤️

This is extraordinarily serious. A prominent doctor, rector of a British university, British citizen, prevented from entering Germany in violation of every law simply because he is Palestinian

People talk all the time about how the war criminals in Israel should face the same justice as the Nazis did in Germany. But most of the Nazis got away with it- there was no real de-nazification which is part of the reason the country is still run by genocide loving freaks.

That’s true; Israel is the existential threat to its own existence. It’s been obvious from the beginning to those of us who’ve had the misfortune of dealing with it all our lives. But the rest of the world gets to see it now too. It’s going to destroy itself before too long

Terrifying moment for Syrians in Lebanon from two fronts: the violent hate speech and assaults from f*sc!st christian petty-militias AND the complete silence and immobility from other sectors of the society in defence of Syrian refugees safety, in lieu of a functional state.

They say that tomorrow is Eid, summer is gone, winter has arrived, then New Year, then summer again, Ramadan and Eid, and I stumble every day in a whole world designed from my nightmares.

There are a thousand soldiers and a thousand shells between me and my home.

Less than a week from today, April 13, marks the 49th anniversary of the beginning of the Lebanese civil war. The checkpoints are gone but the front lines remain; the dead still restless and unburied

Hamas is pushing for a ceasefire deal that frees the hostages, ends the war, allows Palestinians to return to their homes, and facilitates the entry of aid into Gaza. Israel is killing civilian family of Hamas leaders to try and sabotage negotiations. Who are the extremists?

Haha the bouncing little girl clamoring for a second sandwich:
'This one's mine! Because I haven't had enough yet! Because it's so delicious!' ❤️ 🥰

Hard to wish everyone a happy Eid because there's little that's happy about it. As I gather to eat w/ family I can't help but think about all the families rent apart by slaughter, with no homes to gather in & little to eat. Hold your loved ones close & soon in a free Palestine

They're not upset about the violence though but rather they feel betrayed because they were sold a bunch of promises about the transformative powers of violence and none of them have come true and they feel more unsafe than ever.

my book BURNOUT is out today with Verso Books - here's an excerpt in The Baffler about why existing theories of 'left melancholy' didn't quite seem to describe the kinds of experiences I was trying to write about
