#rdguk had one of these lock ups in the last arch of the now demolished (1860s) loggia that stood at the side of St Laurence's church. Can be seen in this Fox Talbot image from c.1844

As it's #worldphotographyday2025 here's an image of the then newly built Royal Berkshire Hospital in #rdguk taken by William Henry Fox Talbot, the father of modern photography who worked at the nearby Reading Establishment in 1844 - 1847

Noticed last night on a walk that the plaque on the old Reading Establishment marking Fox Talbot's work on photography has disappeared during the refurb work. Anyone know if this is going to be replaced #rdguk Reading Borough Council Reading Civic Society Reading Museum

Alfred had a link to Reading as he was present at the 1st Battle of Reading in 871 against the Viking Great Heathen Army. He was on the losing side that day and only escaped with his life after fording the River Loddon #rdguk
