Henry V died #onthisday in 1422. Although he reigned for just nine years, his successes in the Hundred Years' War made England a powerful military force. He is buried in the Abbey and above his tomb is a chantry chapel where prayers were said daily for the king's soul.

'Thou know'st that we two went to school together' - Julius Caesar (V, 5)   Sir Isaac Newton is buried in the Abbey, close to a memorial to his tutor Isaac Barrow. Barrow was the first Lucasian professor of mathematics at Cambridge, a position he resigned in favour of Newton.

Today we remember Lucian Tapiedi, who was among 333 Christians who lost their lives in New Guinea during the occupation of the island by Japanese forces in 1942. Tapiedi is one of ten 20th-century martyrs whose statues above the Abbey's Great West Door. westminster-abbey.org/abbey-commemor…
