London please help. I’m praying for a miracle, I’ve just got into the office and noticed my mums locket (in all these photos) that I wear every day has fallen off my neck on my walk in. My mum died when I was seven and her jewellery is most of what I have of her. I’m devastated

If these tears and this blood had been shed three thousand years ago they would form the cornerstone of our sacred texts. As it is, those sacred texts seem to be the justification and the defence for all this cruelty.

We have very few eel-related metaphors English now. But there used to be many more. One of my favorites is from William Lisle’s 1631 play "The Faire Ætheopian" where he describes a procession of haughty maids as being “smug as Eeles." Have you ever been that smug? Has anyone?

To clarify for anyone unfamiliar with academia, I have a PhD in English Literature, not a PhD in Olfactory Ethics - that is the subject of my thesis that earned me the PhD.

As Gaie's MP I tried everything I could to challenge this decision to send her back to prison - including writing to the prisons minister Lord Timpson and the probation service. Why on earth is this government releasing violent criminals early due to prison overcrowding, but

"It is odd, in retrospect, that Curtis wrote one film in which Hugh Grant falls in love with an American woman, and then thought: “No, that isn’t enough. I must do that again.”" I've written about Notting Hill, the best romcom of all time. theguardian.com/film/2025/jan/…

My 4yo is in a know-it-all phase where every time he asks a question he prefaces by saying “I already know this but can you remind me…” I told him there was a guy named Plato who said we’re born knowing everything and merely rediscover things, and he said “yeah I knew that”
