Wow. Quiet as kept. Stephen Perkins is JA’s Secret Sauce. A belated HBD 🥳 to Perkie! Without doubt, he is one of the most relentlessly positive & enthusiastic straight edge musicians I’ve ever met. Seeing him everyday on Lolapalooza 1, was always a Bright Spot. PMA personified.

When I met Perkie, I thought “He’s the reason this band is together”.

“Volume” is a pretext. Not to discount it as an issue. Having acknowledged it? That reaction is utterly outside the range of the problem. Anyone familiar with Jane’s knows it too.

The Bear is a Comedy? I guess Dramedy never took off as a genre then. Ms. Clolón-Zayas 👑 put in WORK.

Anybody, including Perry’s wife, attempting to reduce this solely to a conflict over stage volume, is willfully ignoring the darker historical context fueling Perry’s rage-that he’s not currently in top form, whilst Dave has risen from the ashes of both illness & addiction.

It’s a great show, but The Bear is not a comedy (to me). The stakes are too high from scene to scene to qualify. The tension is not really relieved by levity (imo). White Lotus, by contrast was a comedy, albeit with intense things to say about class & privilege,

Need to check that one!

It’s a shame that traditional categories aren’t equipped to reflect those nuances, Not just in entertainment.

Perry is a FABULOUS vocalist . When he’s On Point. Which he is NOT now. Farrell was also a BRILLIANT Cultural Tactician. Lollapalooza was largely HIS vision. He’s not in his Visionary Space right now. Cancelling the REST of JA’s tour? Is. Not. About. On. Stage. Volume.

BITD? One always had to beware of the Sudden Junkie Lunge.If an H addict was On The Fiend? ANYTHING could happen-depending on circumstances. Don’t think this is tha tho. More complicated. Booze has been cited. Don’t know. Rage & frustration without emotional discipline is enough.

JA is a GREAT BAND. They conjure something alchemical & dangerous with their RAW, Funky, Whimsical Darkness, paradoxically intertwined with a weirdly propulsive optimism (Perkie!). On all cylinders? JA is INCANDESCENT, despite (or BECAUSE of) its shadows. 🖤
