Somaliland & Somalia have always been two separate countries. Both gained independence in 1960 and formed a union in the same year. However, in 1991, we dissolved that union and chose not to be part of it. Somaliland is open to engaging in bilateral agreements with any countries.

Somaliland is one of the African countries that stand out for its democratic achievements. We have held five successful elections, with two of them won by opposition parties. However, Western countries that promote democracy have largely failed to recognize our accomplishments.

On the occasion of my country's 64th Independence Day, I extend my congratulations to all the citizens of Somaliland. Somaliland was a British Protectorate from 1884 until 25 June 1960 and became an independent state on 26 June 1960. Its sovereignty is non-negotiable.

Sovereignty of Somaliland is non-negotiable. We gained our independence from Britain in 1960 & reclaimed it in 1991. Ensuring peace in the region is paramount, and proxy wars are unacceptable. We encourage Egypt to consider reuniting with Sudan or Syria, as they were once united.

Egypt should focus on the conflicts in Sudan & Gaza, which it could have resolved if it had taken a more honest approach rather than interfering in Somaliland & Somalia. Any concerns regarding the Ethiopian Nile should be addressed through the UN and AU, not through proxy wars.

Somaliland gained its independence in 1960. We are not redrawing Africa’s borders & we are not the PKK. When Recep Tayyip Erdoğan came to power, we described him as Atatürk. We have repeatedly urged Brother Erdoğan to remain neutral or to mediate in matters concerning Somaliland & Somalia.
