#VOXtips 3: Tell Stories Storytelling is a powerful communication tool. By giving your presentation a narrative or turning it into an investigation or journey, you engage your audience. Stories add zest and impact, but also create an emotional connection.

Fabulous morning on the HE intro to teaching s park campus. Matt Wait VOX Coaching who led it was brilliant (plus a really nice guy) and I certainly came away with a smile on my face, confidence and eager for the next session.

#VOXtips 4: Breathe! Before presenting, breathe calmly, from the diaphragm, so that your abdomen as well as your chest expands. This has a powerfully calming effect, makes you feel more in command. This communicates itself to an audience and increases their confidence in you.

#VOXtips 5: Physical Presence In the spotlight? Don't shrink, hunch, fold your arms, or shuffle. Hold yourself straight with an open posture, gesture naturally and expressively. Focus outwards on the audience, with plenty of eye contact. This will put you in command of the room.

#VOXtips 6: Ignore the inner gremlin We all have an inner critic who puts us off when we’re trying to engage an audience. Ignore the gremlin’s running commentary: turn your attention and energy outwards. When speaking or presenting be ‘other-conscious’ rather than self-conscious

It's #NationalComplimentDay! As well as giving them, remember to *accept* compliments. The human mind is naturally attuned to focus on negatives - we have to hear a positive message up to 20 times before we accept it, while critical messages are accepted after one hearing.

#VOXtips 7: LISTEN Active listening is fundamental to trust, engagement and presence, and key to developing and maintaining good personal and professional relationships. Endeavour to genuinely understand what the other person is thinking, feeling and wanting before you respond.

#VOXtips 8: Rehearse After preparing a presentation, you should REHEARSE it. Rehearsing out loud lets you play around with different ways of delivering your speech and aids spontaneity on the actual day, making you more prepared to deal with anything unexpected that occurs.
