Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux is planning a split from the regional grouping. Lots of possibilities: bid by Saint-Emilion to make neighbouring Castillon a satellite; or Saint-Emilion wants to create second labels in Castillon. Could just be they think they need their own promotion.

Château Montus and Château Bouscassé (red, white and sweet) from Madiran were served at the official lunch between Emmanuel Macron and Xi Jinping today. Great for owner Alain Brumont and to shine a light on this southwest France region.

Heavy mildew pressure right across the vineyards in south-west France. More rain today. Bordeaux risks being 100% affected. There is serious spraying going on.

We often have good bottles in our room when we stay in hotels. Tonight it is Domaine Vrignaud 2012 Chablis Premier Cru Fourchaume Vieilles Vignes. Better than the hotel room service food.

President Macron calls French parliamentary elections after victory of Far Right in European elections. Worry is that this will give a fast lane for Marine le Pen to assume power in France.

One of the greatest symphonies of all, Mahler's 9th, premiered 112 years ago today. #NowListening to a "pointless, aesthetically bankrupt" (David Hurwitz) period instrument #NewRelease, followed by Claudio Abbado (born #OTD 1933) in Lucerne, hailed by some as the greatest ever.

The job of a government is to give the people confidence. Watching Tony Blair on Sky News this evening: he did it. Can Michel Barnier or Keir Starmer?
