New paper out "Associations of childhood hearing loss and adverse childhood experiences in deaf adults" with GlobalHealthNow and Shazia Siddiqi, MD, MPH Thread below with some thoughts behind this journals.plos.org/plosone/articl…

Students today are learning about integrative oncology and the importance of exercise and wellness. Program leadership includes Ruth O'Regan, Antony McLetchie, Nicole ODell, Carla Casulo, MD, Sarah Gordon, Susan Ogden, myself, @skbn_scientist and more

Welcome, interns! Medical students from backgrounds underrepresented in medicine are with us through ASCO's summer internship program. Students from Rochester School for the Deaf are joining us to learn more about medicine & oncology. We celebrated them all with an ice cream social this week. 🍦

Day 3! We start off with @skbn_scientist talking about translational science and working in the lab. She does a great job of contextualizing how COVID19 accelerated translational science with societal investments and participation. Opportunities to learn Auslan from birth as standard for all deaf children in Australia would have prevented the language deprivation impacts here. Access to sign languages is a human right for all deaf children. Global Coalition for Language Rights abc.net.au/news/2023-08-2… via ABC Australia

This is a huge deal for all disabled communities, but especially for our deaf signing communities that have had to contend with limiting frameworks in NIH to date. Our intersectionality of sociocultural linguistics and disability is a great fit for Health Disparities!

Had the pleasure of watching Innivee Strategies present today to Wilmot Cancer Institute leadership about their needs assessment of local deaf community cancer treatment and access. Highly informative and important work! UR Medicine
