For tour guides at @NPCannery, this view makes enduring the occasional downpour worth the wait: the mouth of the #skeenariver and densely-forested Smith Island. The beacon? Not operating today, but a reminder of how communication with the fishing fleet used to work. #exploreanada

Happy "Canniversary" to Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society in #Steveston! Younger than North Pacific by just 5 years, this so-called "Monster Cannery" was the largest in BC at its time until 1902. Explore gulfofgeorgiacannery.org to learn more about the summer of celebrations.

North Pacific Cannery is home to the Grand Trunk Pacific Model Railroad Club. Housed in our 76-year-old salt shed, the model trains jump into action several times per day as tourists pass by and insert a loonie into a box. #princerupert #hiddentreasures

This year marks 130 years since @NPCannery's founder John Carthew began construction on the land he bought for $183. He gathered twelve men to drive in pilings and erect the wharf and main canning building for use that summer, then sold the business for $40,000. #bchistory

In front of the net loft—where women and children spent hours cleaning and repairing nets for gillnetting fishermen to use—a spider's silky web glistens. Like a gillnetter, a spider must consider a number of factors when determining the location of its web to catch prey.
