Rob Knight shares the devastating news that some of us process the sugar in rice (healthy, right?!?!) the same way we do ice cream 🍦 😫 #ISME19 #sciencetwitter #microbiology #CapeTown

A hearty siyabonga to everyone who traveled to Cape Town for #isme19. We’re grateful that you shared your best science, and contributed to expanding the ISME family! The week was filled with memorable moments, including the training workshops, the Microbes & Climate Change event.

Out in Cell Host & Microbe: Conservation of antiviral systems across domains of life reveals immune genes in humans. Using phylogenomics, we traced antiphage systems in eukaryotes, predicted human homologs and validated their immune function in human cells! cell.com/cell-host-micr…

Beyond grateful for this 🙏 wouldn’t have been possible without my lab that founded this idea and the EMBL community and colleagues / mentors around the world who helped me sharpen this vision. We will be hiring soon - get in touch! embl.org/groups/petrido…
