The condition in which asylum seekers are living on the streets of Dublin is beyond appalling. The former Jury’s hotel nearby is vacant. The US embassy has acquired the site but surely they could delay taking it over. What about Farmleigh House in the Phoenix Park?

There were 48 victims also in a fire in Dromcollogher, Co Limerick in 1926. The then Minister for Home Affairs (Justine), Kevin O’Higgins, was asked at the funerals whether there be an inquiry. He replied “that is not in contemplation”. There was no inquiry.

There was atone when TDs were not allowed to read speeches. Minister were allowed to read speeches in limited circumstances. This should be revived.
