Nice feature on UW Virology faculty member Dr. Pavitra Roychoudhury, from her alma mater, University of Idaho!
Our new #RNAseq paper by Nicole Lieberman, PhD in PLOS Biology highlights the immune response to #SARSCoV2 in 430 pts. Data suggests age>60 don't effectively recruit cytotoxic T/NK cells, and males throttle antiviral signals, possible link to poorer outcomes. plos.io/3k4bCzz
Great article summarizing how we used Amazon Web Services resources for large scale #COVID19 metagenomics work
UW Virology is collaborating with scientists Fred Hutch Cancer Center and elsewhere to apply metagenomic sequencing to understand #COVID19 better, and to protect against future pandemics. fredhutch.org/content/www/en… via Fred Hutch Cancer Center
Congratulations to UW Dept. of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology 🔬 and UW Virology on running their one millionth COVID test – which they discovered to be more tests than the federal government reporting website can handle. Thanks for all you’re doing to keep Washingtonians safe.
Super excited to share our new paper out today in Cell Reports "Mutant KRAS regulates transposable element RNA and innate immunity via KRAB zinc-finger genes" led by my PhD student & NIH F99/K00 Fellow Roman E. Reggiardo UC Santa Cruz Baskin Engineering at UCSC! cell.com/cell-reports/f…
Happy to share our new RNA liquid biopsy paper published today in Nature Biomedical Engineering Nature Biomedical Engineering! nature.com/articles/s4155… This study was led by my former PhD student & NIH F99/K00 Fellow Roman E. Reggiardo, now a postdoc with Howard Chang Stanford Medicine HHMI. A huge
Liquid biopsies is an emerging technology for non-invasive cancer monitoring. Read how Daniel Kim's team are looking at repetitive RNAs secreted out of cancer cells, & typically overlooked, as a potential potent biomarker of early-stage cancer. Read: bit.ly/45SkBeX
I used to help run a free bioinformatics course UC Santa Cruz Genomics Institute for CA community college students -- a month of hands on training and support from grad instructors and undergrad TAs. The next generation needs your support today, please join me in giving: givingday.ucsc.edu/giving-day/780…
If you want to check out the course, here it is: rreggiar.github.io/ucsc_scbc_2022/ thanks to Vikas Peddu, Daniel Kim, Daniel Arriaza, Alexis Thornton , Brandon St. John, Zia Isola and the whole team at UC Santa Cruz Genomics Institute for helping make this possible!!
