Excited to share our new preprint and 1800+ tomograms with the community! 🎉 This is our first step towards building a visual proteomics dataset for Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. I hope the community will be able to make good use of this data!🔬#CryoET biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

"The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater." With Tolkein's help, I hope we can manifest a peaceful new year for ourselves!

New year's day lunch. Baked "tandoori" chicken wings. I marinated them for 18 hr in red chilli paste, garam masala, lemon, garlic powder, paprika, soy sauce, mustard, & olive oil. Baked at 425F/35 min, flipped them once every 5-8 min, & then broiled a min on each side at the end.

I made raspberry bread. A bit like banana bread, but instead of ripe bananas I used compote made with fresh raspberries, cardamom, & maple syrup. For flour, I did half-and-half all purpose & almond flours.

Being called a "low-waged indentured servant", on what's only the second day of the year 2025, by Bernie Sanders no less, wasn't definitely on my bingo card.

Definitely feels weird! "Our Nature paper is online..." If you provide a link, everyone can see if it is in Nature or New York Post. The pessimist in me feels that this name dropping will never go away, as these prestige tokens have become a convenient way to evaluate someone.

Made dry gobi gosht for the first time. Basically, stir-fried cauliflower and lamb. Apparently, a classic in Pakistan. Definitely will be a regular in my kitchen henceforth. The strong flavors of lamb and cauliflower, surprisingly, balance each other very well. Mild & delicious!

Finally got around to watching the movie Kadaisi Vivasayi (Tamil). An emotional allegory of how we are all connected, & our human civilization could very well end with the last farmer. Fantastic movie, especially watching it as someone who grew up in a family of rice farmers.

Most hilarious thing I've ever seen. It is almost like every one of these players have 9 lives each. Because, with that kind of fielding, they managed to get the batting team to 41 required of 1 ball.

My Lyft driver, totally unprovoked: I moved to the US from South Africa, & my greatest disappointment after moving here has been the lack of good Indian food. It is my favorite cuisine. How can they take the best cuisine in the world & make it crap?

I don't know man. My favorite place to be in the entire world is home. The only other person there is my wife, with whom I've lived for 10 yrs. I don't even have to stare at her, just being in her presence, simply listening to her, even breathing the same air, feels comfortable.

I'm not sure what we should be calling this dish, but it has become one of our staples. Whole wheat yogurt leavened naan, ghee, salad with balsamic vinegar-maple-lime-oregano dressing, & some protein (in this case broiled lamb leg) spiced with rasel hanout, dried mango & harissa.

I don't think I can spend time on this site anymore. Occasionally, I posted science/academia related posts, which I will continue on 🦋 (same handle). But mainly, I showed off food/cooking pics that will have to wait for a platform that is not ruined by billionaires. Eat well!
