Nice to see the #ReframeCovid collection being referenced in Danyang Li's talk at #icl2024 π
Happy that in the discourrse and cognition section with a keynote, one poster and seven papers, two of those papers were by Linguistics and English Language, Lancaster Uni students. The peer review was double blind - Lancaster students are just really good! #icl2024
Very interesting talk by Mirela Imamovic about human vs automated (Gemini, ChatGPT) annotation of TED talks for appraisal (attitude). There's *a lot* still to do, but the research is a first step. #icl2024
Metaphor, gesture and a queer topic - what more could one wish for? Impressive talk by Tomasz Dyrmo at #icl2024
It was a great honour to give the opening keynote at the 8th Discourse Studies Forum in Qinhuangdao today. My talk was on "Critical Approaches to Studying Healthcare Discourse: Theory and Application". Lovely to (again) meet so many colleagues with a Linguistics and English Language, Lancaster Uni connection!
Today, I will talk about discourse analysis at Xidian University. The talk will be livestreamed as well: 2.30pm Chinese time, 7.30am BST
Final talk in China, for Lancaster University's partner Xidian University today and Linguistics and English Language, Lancaster Uni's partner Xi'an Xiatong tomorrow
A great thing about Linguistics and English Language, Lancaster Uni is its staff - so, nice to see 10 of us - Paul Baker Vaclav Brezina Jonathan Culpeper Christopher Hart Veronika Koller Judit Kormos, Alison Mackey, Jason Rothman Elena Semino (oh, and me!) - in the latest Stanford list of the world's top 2% of scientists.
