I finished #icl2024 with a talk by Silvia Zampetta et al. on the good old temperature metaphors, only this time in different periods of Ancient Greek. Why are there so many more metaphoric types and tokens for heat than for cold: topic, genre, climate, word stems searched?

It was a great honour to give the opening keynote at the 8th Discourse Studies Forum in Qinhuangdao today. My talk was on "Critical Approaches to Studying Healthcare Discourse: Theory and Application". Lovely to (again) meet so many colleagues with a Linguistics and English Language, Lancaster Uni connection!

I've learned a lot about discourse analysis in China over the past few days, it is a very vibrant, innovative and dynamic field.
