People mock Al Gore for pretending to have invented the internet, but his Act looks like a model of prescient industrial strategy: a correct vision, a smart analysis for why the government must be involved, strong principles. From Verity Harding excellent book "AI needs you"

Wonderful news!! Huge congratulations to Demis Hassabis and John Jumper! I remember so well first learning about their protein folding in 2016 when I joined DeepMind and this an incredible and richly deserved recognition for the absolute best use of AI from anyone so far.

Beyond excited to receive an early copy of this today. I haven’t looked forward to the release of a book this much since The Mirror and the Light, and I don’t say that lightly. (I have also pre-ordered the hardback out next year and if you like the Beatles then so should you!)

Don’t fall victim to the trend on X to reduce all tech policy to “you’re either with us or against us”. Plenty of issues don’t have clear solutions—in some areas reform is needed, in others new creative ideas. This is not binary. You’re not an enemy if you disagree with someone.

So pleased to see this. I wrote in my book about the need for politicians to use their convening power to try and direct AI to more purposeful and beneficial uses, rather than focusing only on risk and protectionism. Better late than never! axios.com/2024/10/31/bid…
