I bristle whenever a skeptic is dismissed as "cynical." There's a huge difference. Skeptics think and doubt and, in so doing, affirm a vision of the way things ought to be. Cynics affirm nothing, take no action, and end up helping to perpetuate an objectionable status quo.

I think the “it looks like human writing” misses so god damn much while, simultaneously, reaffirming the values and priorities people bring to assessing writing. We don’t write to create texts. Production is not the point.

I finished the week but two teachers and two students just 35 miles up the road did not. Yes we need stricter gun laws. Yes we need mental health services. Yes families play a role. There are no easy answers but we must figure this out. We deserve to be safe in our schools!
