It's 9.05am on the first day of primary school this year. As their counterparts in urban and private schools enter the second or third lesson of the morning, these ones in rural Kitgum bask in the tropical sun as they look forward to beginning "real classes " some time next week!

Mzee's Kampala supporters, in their thousands, "wave" to him as his kilometre-long motorcade weaves its way out of newly-refurbished Nakivubo Stadium.

If Hon Akol Anthony raised the issue of low electricity connection in Achoki sub-region on the floor of Parliament in Kampala, what would the responsible minister say? What if he raised the sane matter at the Gulu sitting? Will the response be any better?

The issue of cattle compensation (not "War Debt" - which is bigger) in Acholi, Lango, and Teso needs obvious action: pay larger annually; not just 1 or 2 heads a year! Even from Kla, parliament could've known that Mao needs more money for this. You didn't need to come to Gulu!

How many senior staff of UBOS proofread the final draft of the preliminary census results, apart from the ED? Is the president and his aides given a peek at the results before the official launch/release - to help them draft a speech? Eh, the guilty are many!

You've travelled in your new car to visit your great uncle deep in your mum's ancestral village and the herdman who helps him asks you why ripe mangoes "don't fall upwards'! It's mango season up north and he is tired of keeping the compound clean of the yellow fruits! Answer him.

A nurse in Kumi rides back her other three 'happy' colleagues from an official polio immunisation field trip. Where do we draw the line? Dedication or fatalism?

The red "C" of President's Office/State House, has been a sort of "menace" from the days of Obote's NASA. Now, in the kavuyo of the digital number plates, it has died a sudden death. What will they now use to flaunt power and lawlessness?

Today I led a delegation from Kitgum NGO Forum to hand over to the community of Madi Opei Sub-county, Lamwo District, a monument we supported them build in memory of ten locals and 30 South Sudanese refugees burnt to ashes in a Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) ambush in 1997.

The last morning sun of 2024 peeps at Kitgum District from Pader District, across the road. Beautiful tropical savanna land in Northern Uganda.
